Vital Options International (VOI) was founded in 1983 by Selma Schimmel after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Selma was a visionary and pioneer in the way she developed programs to educate and support others around the world who received a cancer diagnosis. In 2014 we lost Selma to cancer, but Vital Options International lives on with her spirit to guide us.

With a new Board of Directors whose passion for helping others is unparalleled, we are excited to share a new development in the way we help Patients and their families.
Assisting People Facing Financial Hardship
The VOI Board of Directors has established the Selma Schimmel Vital Grant, a monetary gift distributed to qualified patients. The grant program will assist those facing a significant financial hardship due to the diagnosis of a chronic, terminal or rare condition such as cancer, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s Disease or many others.
Vital Grant Applications
To apply for a Selma Schimmel Vital Grant, you must complete a grant application, agree that you have read and understand our privacy policy and terms pertaining to the grant application and submit the application form online.

Vital Options International will review grant applications and in many cases forward qualified applicants to partner organizations who will review, process and award grants to qualified patients and caregivers.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the number of applications we receive and the time we put into reviewing each application, you will be notified ONLY if we are able to provide you with assistance. You may however receive information on other organizations that provide support services to patients and caregivers.
