what's the story with evista for breast cancer risk, is better than tamoxifen, or safer, or not? are doctors prescribing evista for breast cancer or just osteoperosis?

In addition to being an osteoporosis drug, based on results from the STAR trial (Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene) which included close to 20,000 women, Evista (Raloxifene) demonstrated benefit in breast cancer prevention for postmenopausal women at high risk for breast cancer. It is not used to treat breast cancer. For more information, please visit the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) at www.breastcancerprevention.org.

I am 50 years old, premenopausal, and have been diagnoised with atypical ductal hyperplasia. I met with an oncologist yesterday to devise a plan to keep me free from breast cancer. He gave me information on Evista. I have a lot of apprehension about this medication. After giving him my personal and family history he determined my risk factor of developing breast cancer is slightly increased, 1.5 to 2 times. I read over the list of common side effects and find any of them unacceptable (hot flashes, leg cramps, skin rash(hives), weight gain, increased risk of blood clots). Then after induring these it would only lower my risk a few percentage points. I thinking I am leaning more towards more frequent mammograms and breast exams. Can anyone give me more information on this or share their personal experience with this situation? Just trying to make the right decision!
Thanks
