The FDA has approved numerous of drugs that have caused irreversable damage and death to millions of people. If the effects of Lupron Depot only caused you one side effect of hot flashes like you say, consider yourself one of the lucky few. In time, you may possibly discover down the road bone density loss. I for one suffered tremendously from Lupron Depot. I had severe bone & muscle pain. The worst headaches I ever had, the feeling of being strangulated from anxiety attacks, stoned & disoriented. I could not drive my car. My blood pressure shot up, & I had to go on medication for that in addition to pain & anti anxiety meds. It took three months for the side effects to subside. Within a year after stopping Lupron, I developed muscsle twitching, neuropathy pain in my spine, & osteoarthritis. Coincedental? I don't know. Ladies, please heed the warnings of Lupron Depot. Us sufferers are not angry, crazy women, just terrified, & want to spread the word. And...the worst thing of all, Lupron does not cure, it's temporary fix if that.

Hi Julie, I am sorry you are going through this. I was diagnosed with Endo 4 years ago. I am 42 years old, never knew I had it until I suffered complications of the urinary system. I've had 3 pelvic surgeries including reconstruction of my ureter & bladder. My Doc put me on Lupron, & after one month, I felt like I was in a living hell. My side effects from this drug were, severe joint and muscle pain, severe headaches, anxiety attacks,(feeling like I was being strangulated) disorientation, violent mood swings, I had urges to hurt people, it was the worst experience in my life. It takes three months after the final shot to recover from the side effects. Lupron does not promise anything. It can shrink endometrial implants, but rarely shrinks back larger cysts. It is temporary & eventually returns. It was not worth the side effects for me or the long term damage this drug causes. If you need to hold down a job, forget about it. You will not be able to function at a normal capacity. My urologist receptionist was taking Lupron at the same time I was, & she said that she had the constant feeling of vomit in her throat in addition to severe hot flashes. She evetually had to take a medical leave of absence. I have yet again another adnexal mass for 3 yrs they have been watching it via MRI & Ultra sound. My doc want's me to retry Lupron with add back therapy, & I am scared to go on it again. I just want to feel better, not worse. Good luck to you!

I too think that some people are just hypochondriacs, I mean, to say that you got a headache 1/2 hour after the shot when this medication slowly releases into your system over time is a a little far-fetched. That being said, I have been on the med for 3 weeks and this is the side effects I have experienced: night sweats, hot flashes, acne and an extremely irritable mood, where I get so easily frustrated that I have to take a break in order to not explode into an angry tirade of some sort. I just hope the fibroids shrink, if not, then I will not go back for my 3rd month shot.

norethindrone

Hi Kari,

Yes! the norethindrone works wonders with the Lupron Depo. My endo was so bad that it is all over my bowls and back. Over the course of the last 5 years and some life-altering stresses in my life, the endo came back with a vengence. At first I thought I had some horrible bowel and stomach disease until they were ruled out. Long story short, I realized that the endo came back and requested the Lupron again. I was on Lupron 15 years ago for 9 months with much success and wanted to avoid a 6th surgery.

This time the side affects were more intense than I remembered so my doc put me on the norethindrone. Ever since I started the norethindrone, I feel wonderful physically and emotionally. I am more active now that I have been in 5 years. I still have my period every month even though I am on the Lupron, but I can deal with the "light load". I formerly would bleed in huge clots and soak pads like they were going out of style and was anemic. Now all I have is what I consider a normal period where the bleeding it light and cramping is minimal and no clots!

I am 49 years old and my doc said she would leave me on it until menopause. I am so relieved that I don't have to go through a 6th surgery. I have gained some weight but with my increased activity, I am working on taking it off and keeping it under control.

I wish all good luck with Lupron and highly recommend norethindrone to curb those nasty side affects.

Kim

Hi Mira,

Please see my post to Kira. I understand what you say about your irritable mood. That happened to me the first few weeks and I too felt like I was going to explode about the least little thing. I was so bitchy that my boss sent me home early because he just didn't know how to handle me. I normally am very easy going but was flying into rages.

Anyway, again I need to stress combining norethindrone with the Lupron Depot. Within days my mood went back to normal along with my blood pressure. It also reduced the hot flashes significantly. I still have insomia but it is getting better. I have been on the Lurpon for 4 months now and will stay on it as long as I am taking the norethindrone.

My best wishes to you.

Kim

Hello...I am 27 years old. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis when I was 21 after many years of thinking it was ovarian cysts. I have had 2 Laparoscopies and also a partial Hysterectomy 2 years ago. I was able to have 2 healthy children prior to that. I still have my ovaries and am now experiencing so much pain, I cant even have intercourse. I am deciding whether its necessary to have another surgery and possible removal of one ovary or to undergo Lupron depot therapy. I have read so many opinions and am not sure what is right for me. Any ideas or anyone been in my shoes; what did you choose?

to: Mira Smith.I would have to agree with you. I would say its a little far fetched saying that a side effect is like a major headache like 30 min after the shot. Also people saying they started going crazy like the same or next day. Seems a little far fetched to me. I am into week 3 of my first 3 month shot. I have not yet experienced anything other than acne yet. I am wondering when the hot flashes and everything else will come along?? I am thinking next month?

Side Effects and Lupron Depot:

Side effects that have been associated with the use of Lupron Depot frequently include hot flashes and night sweats, and less frequently palpitations,
syncope, and tachycardias.
Other side effects include generalized pain, headaches, vaginitis, nausea/vomiting, fluid retention[, weight gain, acne, hirsutism, joint pain, loss of sexual desire, depression, dizziness, nervousness, and breast changes such as tenderness and pain. There have been no deaths directly related to therapy
with Lupron Depot.

Lupron is an effective and medically accepted treatment for endometriosis. Despite the fact that many women do experience side effects during treatment with Lupron Depot, women often consider these side effects to be a necessary price to pay for the relief of the severe pain and suffering of endometriosis.

For the first week or two after the first injection of Lupron, reproductive hormones increase causing an increase in symptoms. However, after the first few weeks these hormones decrease to levels seen in menopausal women. Menstruation may become less regular and can be heavier or lighter. Some women experience complete cessation of menstrual periods during Lupron therapy.

It is important to remember that Lupron is not a contraceptive and it is possible for pregnancy to occur during therapy. Even if you are not having periods, ovulation could occur. Non-hormonal birth control must be used to prevent pregnancy during treatment.

I have been on the Lupron shot for over 7 months now and I Love It! It has worked well for me! The side effects that I have had are very minimal. Just hot flashes that have subsided as time goes on! I'm so thankful that it has worked for me, and I know other people that it has worked well for also. I just get the once a month shot, it's a lot milder than the three month shot.

I have been on the Lupron Injections for the past 3 months. I have had the hot flashes, loss of sexual desire, mood swings, and some headaches.. The best side effect though is the LOSS OF THE PERIOD. That outweighs the side effects 10 to 1. I feel like a new woman.. I want to try fertility treatments now before I have to get a Hysterectomy.. Wish me luck....Oh and the good part is you can tell off people you have always wanted to and blame it on the drug..LOL

Fourth shot coming up next week

I am just one week away from my fourth shot of Lupron for a very large fibroid (the size of a basketball). I guess I am pretty lucky so far. The main problems I have had is the joint(wrist and elbow) pain, hot flashes and abdominal distress. Of course my husband just loves the emotional lability -moments of insanity he would prefer they put on the list.

The abdominal distress was the absolute worst. For almost 3 straight weeks after the 2 nd shot I was in constant agony in my upper abdomen. I was unable to work most of the time, actually broke down crying during a meeting because the pain was so bad. I am so glad that is gone now.

I never thought I would be happy about having a hysterectomy. Of course I never thought I would be looking forward to getting bifocals either.
The Lupron has definitely helped with the exhaustion from low iron levels, although I am not nearly as energetic as I was 6 years ago.

Toujours faire votre recherche avant traitement médicamenteux ANY. GOD BLESS!

I have had one injection of Lupron so far, a month long dose. I am scheduled for my second one on the 24th, which will be a 3 month long dose.
My Dr has gone this route to shrink my two very large fibroids for surgery as I would like to have a child, and it seems they are blocking "everything".
I'm curious on the sleep issue. What do others do to help them get a nights rest? I used to sleep just fine, with only having to get up twice to pee (pressure from the fibroid). Now I can't seem to even get to sleep, unless it's daytime, which I am SO tired all the time. I've also been fighting a headache since a week after the injection, which I am not sure if it is actually from the injection or from the lack of sleep.
I wondered about dosing myself with some gravol, once prior to bed, then once if I woke in the night. The Dr. is the next step, when he is in the office (which he isn't now of course)
I have also had hot flashes, though not horrible, managible other then my co-worker who insists on keeping track of them LOL!

Thanks for any suggestions.
It's all worth it in the end IMO.
