Vital Options International is
a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit cancer communications organization with
a mission, to facilitate a global cancer dialogue®.
Founded in 1983 by Selma Schimmel when she was diagnosed with breast
cancer at age 28, it began as the first psychosocial and advocacy
organization specifically targeted to address the unique needs of
young adults with cancer. For over a decade, Vital Options was a
pioneering force for young adults with cancer between the ages of
17 through their early 40’s.
In 1996, with the launch of The Group
Room®, a cancer talk call-in radio
show produced in association with Premiere Radio Networks, later
owned by Clear Channel, Vital Options developed into a cancer communications
organization for people of all ages, expanding into an international
organization in 2000. The Group Room
was nationally syndicated for 14 years before transitioning into
its current all video platform.
Today, along with The Group Room
clinical programs, featuring discussions with the world’s leading
oncologists, researchers, oncology nurses and other professionals,
Vital Options produces several new programs under The
Group Room banner, such as, Advocacy
in Action®, OncoTalk® The CancerNewsMinute®, The Professor & The
Survivor®, and the Living with Cancer™ series.
Hosting a robust distribution channel, Vital Options regularly collaborates
with oncology organizations, professional societies, and the cancer
advocacy community worldwide, to create and produce innovative content
that teaches and inspires. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California,
Vital Options International European base is located in France at
the American Hospital of Paris.
